The safety of road workers is a major concern for infrastructure managers. Every day, teams from the Interdepartmental Road Directorates respond to accidents, manage incidents, carry out roadworks, or remove obstacles on French roads and highways.
To improve the protection of these workers and better inform drivers, new alerts are now appearing in navigation apps such as Waze, providing clearer indicators of the presence of road workers on the roadside.
Behind this real-time information dissemination lies a data exchange system that connects road operations tools to the apps used by drivers.
Information shared to drivers in real time
The Interdepartmental Road Directorates have systems in place to collect field information about ongoing operations.
NeoGLS provides a webservice for each directorates in France to distribute this data to external platforms.
Partner applications, such as Waze, query this webservice regularly to retrieve available information and display it to drivers.
The transmitted data may inform, in particular :
The presence of workers on duty
Salting and snow removal operations
Thanks to these regular updates, drivers are informed in advance and can adapt their driving. NeoGLS’s role is to provide the technical infrastructure that allows road authorities to disseminate their data, thanks to our PRISM solution. Each Interdepartmental Road Directorate directly configures the information it wishes to make available. This mechanism standardises the dissemination of traffic and road safety information on a national scale.
A tool to enhance workers safety
By improving driver information through digital tools and navigation apps, these devices contribute to :

Strengthening the safety of workers on duty

Improving drivers’ anticipation

Reducing the risk of accidents or incidents near construction sites
The dissemination of real-time traffic information thus becomes an essential lever for a safer and better connected road.
